5. What exactly do you get with the VIP Beer Geek ticket?
VIP Beer Geeks get several perks. They have their own, separate entrance, early access to the event and their own private beer seminar! On top of that, many breweries will be bringing special cask beers to the event and Beer Geeks get first crack at these beers!
6. How do the sample tokens work at the event?
All beer and food can be sampled by first purchasing sample tokens. Sample tokens are .50 and sold in blocks of ten. Each sample is a minimum of 3 tokens but food and more expensive beers can be more. A sample of beer is legally 4oz, which is 1/3 of a bottle of beer.
7. How much are tickets and where can I get them?
You’ll want to get your tickets early as there are a limited number available and they can sell out. Tickets can be bought in advance from our website: www.albertabeerfestivals.com or at any Sobeys grocery store in Calgary. Tickets at the door are $25 and entrance is subject to capacity. Weekend passes can only be purchased in advance through the Alberta Beer Festivals website.
If you have any questions or problems with the tickets you ordered online, please contact: service@gettickets.ca
8. Is there a charity involved?
Once again, the Calgary International Beerfest is proud to be supporting AAFS – the Autism, Aspergers Friendship Society. A portion of advance ticket purchases will go to support this worthy cause.
The AAFS provides respite care in a recreational environment for families with children-teens-adults on the Autism/Aspergers/PDD spectrum in the Calgary area. We recognize that everyone has very unique social abilities and we do our best to expand on those skills. The outings are in a group atmosphere with AAFS leaders promoting socialization among the participants. Our activities are planned with the help of both the children and their families.
9. Can I volunteer to work at the festival?
It may sound clichéd – but we really couldn’t do it without the volunteers. Most of our volunteers come to us through our charity of choice – but we would love for you to approach us to see if there is anything that you can do. You can contact us at info@albertabeerfestivals.com.
10. Can people get dressed up for Beerfest?
Beerfest is an event for anyone who likes learning about beer, meeting new people, and having a great time. We encourage people to dress nicely but not too nicely. Last year there was a wide range of styles for the event. Anything from tuxes, togas, and kilts, to casual night-on-the-town attire. Dress comfortably but dress appropriately.
11. What if someone isn’t that into beer? Is there something for them at the event?
Although the event has a very heavy focus on beer, we understand that not everyone appreciates this incredible beverage the way we do. In light of that, we will have ciders, and a conservative selection of other beverages such as coolers for patrons to enjoy – plus a wide range of interactive entertainment, live music, and delicious food from first-class restaurants and pubs throughout Calgary.
12. What beer learning occurs at the event?
Our goal at the Calgary International Beerfest is to increase your “Beer-Q” and help you find a new favourite. Beer seminars, hosted by brewmasters and brewery representatives, are held regularly each evening. We also provide beer judging guides, beer lists, and food pairing information for all of our guests. For the ladies, we have a ladies guide to tasting beer and food pairings, and the first seminar each night is for ladies only to become better acquainted with beer knowledge.
